RENOWN NIGERIA PROFESSOR ABDULRAUFU MUSTAPHA IS DEAD AT 63

An eminent scholar and author, Abdulraufu Mustapha, Professor of African Politics at the Department of Government, University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, has passed on according to family sources. Mr. Mustapha, 63, succumbed to stomach cancer after months of courageous battle at about 3 p.m. London time on Tuesday August 8, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Kate and three children. He was author of many well-regarded works including, Turning Points in African Democracy; and Sects and Social Disorder, Muslim Identities and Conflict in Northern Nigeria. Mr. Mustapha who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, studied at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, for his Bachelors and Masters degree in Political Science, and proceeded to the University of Oxford in London where he earned his doctorate degree and stayed back to lecture till his death. VICE PRESIDENT IN CLOSE-DOOR MEETING WITH MILITARY CHIEFS

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday evening had a closed-door meeting with service chiefs. vice-president Yemi Osibanjo The meeting, which was still on in Abuja at the time of this report, also had the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, in attendance. A news letter has reported the several suicide explosions in Maiduguri and other Borno communities in 2017. The latest of such attacks at two internally displaced persons camps in Maiduguri on Sunday caused at least four deaths.

NIGERIA GOVERNMENT APPROVE NEW OIL POLICY

Minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu.  The Federal Government has approved a new policy on oil administration in the country. The approval is sequel to a memo presented to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, by the Minister of State, Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu. Mr. Kachikwu said the approval was given at FEC meeting Of  Wednesday  chaired by the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo. Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Mr. Kachikwu said his ministry had already began implementing some of the policy. “We are working assiduously to exit the importation of fuel in 2019 and we also captured the cash calls changes we have done which enables the sector to fund itself through incremental volumes,” he said.
